I found the hotel all of welcoming, efficient, clean, friendly, accommodatin. The staff were very helpful and customer centric.

It has a particular history and was quirky. It was a nice touch to have a document available on the history of workhouses. The retention of original features was good to see, particulary the lovely flagged floors. The food was good and well cooked; the sea bass was very nice indeed.

The lack of an extraction fan in the bathroom. We struggled to get the TV to work.

Location was ok, breakfast looked a bit crap but actually tasted very nice, no hash browns though so we had to ask for beans instead - which were not very nice, expected much more up-to-date decor as advertised on the website, expected something completely different actually!!

Decor, smell in room, price, lack of luxories for such an espensive hotel, room was dated!! To say the least,

Staff, though few, were helpful. Food in restaurant was generally good with some very good aspects (locally-sourced food).

Reception seemed to be an unattended cupboard. The room was old- fashioned and a little faded in decor; the shaver socket did not work; the window did not shut properly (and it was relatively noisy with road traffic). For some, the stairs to the third floor might be too much. Overall the hotel was accommodating and we enjoyed our stay. But I would not be able to recommend it to more fussy friends. It is a long way from its aspiration to be 4*.

The updated dining area is very pleasant and seeing mountains and Red Kites (birds of prey) from the bedroom window was a delight.

The decor of the bed room would not have been our choice.

      Friendly staff, nice location.

Potentially excellent, just in need of big injection of tlc. Food was disappointing and room needed up bringing into 2011.

    • Older travelers

      1) The smell of food everywhere. 2) Noisy. 3) Small size of the room. 4) There is a gap between the door and frame . 5) Window is not cleaned.

Frielnly and helpful staff.. started breakfast and hour earlier to suit the cyclists without asking.

Some of the rooms are a bit tired but that is what you expect in an old country house.

Nice clean rooms, decent bed & mattress for a change. Parking plentiful. Good food available in restuarant but pricey compared to the very nearby village. Great location near to village but surrounded by fields and nice view of the nearby hill.

Walls / ceiling noticeably in need of renovation in our bathroom - mildew, 'bubbling'. Also I recall the walls in the staircase needed a repaint and some plastering, nothing major though.

I particularly liked the friendly efficient attitude of the hotel staff, nothing was too much trouble.

friendly staff, clean, tasteful decor, good food well prepared and served in a relaxed atmosphere. good central location for sightseeing central Wales

The hotel was tremendous value for money, clean, tidy with welcoming staff. Would visit again and recommend to others.

Only drawback was the high price evening menu which was ludicrous considering to price of rooms and availability of alternative options in town only 10 mins walk away. It was not busy in the hotel in the evening, perhaps it was the way the owners liked it???? Did not make sense otherwise.

    • Older travelers
      5.0

Breakfast was wonderful and service was good.

Though the old workhouse building is interesting, the guest room we stayed in had no privacy sound-wise. The wall between the rooms was so thin that you hear almost every movement your neighbours make.
